Resistance 4 rumor

Nearly 12 years after rumors of Resistance 4 first cropped up, Insomniac Games founder Ted Price has confirmed that they were true. Price, who served as CEO before announcing his retirement back in January, revealed that the game was indeed pitched to Sony. However, it was turned down.

Latest Resistance 4 update prompts calls to resurrect the series

In a new post-retirement interview with Kinda Funny Games, Price said that the pitch was a “wonderful concept” and admitted that Insomniac Games was excited to expand the series’ universe. He further revealed that the team spent a lot of time brainstorming and coming up with a backstory about the Chimera and their origins in an alternate history, and discussed where the franchise could go in the future.

As for why Sony rejected the pitch, Price kept his answer vague, and blamed “timing and market opportunity.” But if a 2021 rumor is to be believed, Sony turned down Resistance 4 because it was thematically similar to The Last of Us — then a new IP Sony was heavily invested in.

The mainline Resistance series never made it out of the seventh generation of consoles. Its PS Vita spinoff, Burning Skies, was widely panned. But that hasn’t stopped fans from asking Sony to give Resistance another chance. The company has been repeatedly criticized for its lackluster live service and remaster projects as it ignores a vault full of dormant beloved IP with potential.
