One of the interesting features of the Samsung Galaxy S9 is the introduction of variable aperture to the main camera. Now according to a report from Ice Universe in a post on Weibo, Samsung could bring variable aperture back to the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
As it stands, users can adjust the aperture of the photos taken on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. However, this is achieved through the Visual Aperture feature that’s part of the Expert RAW app. It’s similar in concept, but still different. It isn’t as efficient compared to being able to adjust it in the camera app itself.
However, if this rumor is true, the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s cameras are in for an upgrade in terms of user experience.
For those unfamiliar, aperture refers to the opening of a camera’s lens. This determine helps to determine the overall sharpness and focus of an image. It also helps to create that desired bokeh effect used in portraits. A wide aperture, like f/1.4, will create a shallower depth of field compared to f/8.
This is why being able to adjust the aperture on the fly will give users more options and flexibility in determining how their photos turn out.
So far, we’ve heard that Samsung will continue to use a hole-punch cutout for the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s front-facing camera. We’ve also heard the rumors that the Galaxy S26 could get a battery upgrade. The Galaxy S26 series is only expected to arrive in 2026, so there’s still a bit of waiting left to do.
