Apple Admits AI Shortcomings Despite Big Promises
Hey Siri... can you wait a bit longer? The post Apple Admits AI Shortcomings Despite Big Promises appeared first on Phandroid.

The initial announcement of Apple Intelligence nearly a year ago finally confirmed that the Cupertino tech giant was willing to throw its hat into the AI ring, showing off features that brought it up to speed with the rest of the competition. While Apple usually refrains from immediately riding current technological trends, the massive onslaught of AI in the consumer tech space was enough to force the company’s hand.

Based on recent developments however, it seems that Apple may have bitten of more than it can chew – a recent statement from the company now confirms that its much-awaited Siri upgrade will be delayed, after an initial promise to have new features ready by Spring 2025. The upgrade will have equipped Siri with personal context capabilities, allowing the assistant to reach into different apps and help users with tasks such as filling out relevant forms, searching for ID photos, and more. As per a statement from a company representative:
We’ve also been working on a more personalized Siri, giving it more awareness of your personal context, as well as the ability to take action for you within and across your apps… It’s going to take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features and we anticipate rolling them out in the coming year.
As far as voice assistants go, Siri has been more or less left behind especially when compared to competing software assistants such as Google Assistant (now mixed with Gemini), and newer AI models with conversational capabilities. Apple also initially marketed Siri with Apple Intelligence as a major selling point for its iPhone 16 series, although it has since pulled its ads showing off its “more personal” Siri.
