PlayStation Stars points have become harder to earn as of this month since PS Plus subscriptions are no longer eligible to earn coin. However, players continue to miss out on precious points due to the assumption that points-based campaigns are automatically started even though they’re not.

The only way to earn a reasonable amount of PS Stars points now is to make purchases via the PS Store, which many folks with a preference for digital libraries already do. However, if they don’t check available PS Stars campaigns and manually “start” a campaign that they’re interested in, players’ PS Store purchases will not earn any points.
As a reminder, PS Stars is a loyalty program that doesn’t retroactively reward players for making purchases in the past. The PS App doesn’t automatically register players for all available campaigns to allow members to pick and choose what they want to focus on. As a result, it’s mandatory to hit the start button on a campaign before making a purchase if you want to earn points.
I see countless posts and threads on various forums where players complain about missing out on points, only to be told by PS Support agents that points cannot be granted retroactively.
It’s easier to avoid the problem than it is to get a PS Support agent to help.
