One of my main grips about the Samsung S Pen stylus accessory is that it’s too thin. Maybe I just have fat hands, but it doesn’t feel as ergonomic as I would like. However, that could change. According to a post on X by @PandaFlashPro, the S Pen on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 could be thicker than previous models.
It’s kind of interesting because it sort of contradicts an earlier rumor. We heard a rumor earlier this month that suggested that the S Pen in the Fold 7 could be “downgraded”. It was speculated that due to Samsung’s desire to make the Fold 7 thinner than the Fold 6, it could compromise on some of the features of the S Pen.
We initially thought that they would slim down the S Pen and in the process, remove certain features. However, this new post suggests that it could be thicker. The potential for downgraded hardware could still be there, but if it is thicker, it might not be a bad thing especially in terms of ergonomics.
Obviously, the choice to integrate the stylus into the phone itself meant Samsung had to make the stylus slimmer compared to other accessories like the Apple Pencil. It is a trade-off in terms of design, but it is more convenient since users wouldn’t need to carry the accessory separately.
In any case, we still have a bit of waiting to do before we have the official details. Samsung’s new foldables are only expected to arrive towards the middle of the year. However, the company might have strong competition on its hands. Oppo recently launched its latest foldable, the Find N5, which boasts an incredibly thin design and amazing battery life.
