Respawn Entertainment is widely known for its spectacular first-person shooters. Titanfall 2 is considered to include one of the best modern shooter campaigns and Apex Legends was able to garner a massive audience in a genre filled with gaming giants like Fortnite and Call of Duty. However, it seems not every one of its projects is a gold mine as it has been reported an unannounced first-person shooter from the developer is canceled.
Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment reportedly cancels unannounced FPS
In a LinkedIn post from former Respawn Entertainment Executive Assistant and Production Coordinator Emilee Evans, she stated an “unannounced incubation project” she had a hand in for the past year has been scrapped.
“The unannounced incubation project I was a part of for the past year was canceled this week, so I am joining the group of extremely talented and kind people in the games industry searching for a new role,” said Evans (via The Game Post).
It is unclear if Evans left or was laid off due to the project’s cancellation. The wording of her post could suggest either may have happened. While there is information about Evans current standing with Respawn Entertainment, what happened to the rest of the incubation team is also unclear as of now.
Respawn Entertainment had listed job openings for its LA office back in 2020 where the studio was hiring for its incubation team (pointed out by Twisted Voxel). These particular roles were for a new IP, and not the studio’s already established Titanfall franchise.
The future of Respawn Entertainment seems uncertain post-Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Obviously, the studio will continue to support its first-person shooter battle royale but beyond that, what the team is working on is still a mystery. One of the most recent reports from last year claimed the developer was working on something set in the Titanfall universe, but was not Titanfall 3. Other than that, what the studio is working on will remain a mystery for now.
