Summary: Google is getting ready to remove Google Assistant from Fitbit watches. A forum post from March announced that Google Assistant will be going away in a few weeks. That day is fast approaching.

Well, it’s almost time for that tear-filled goodbye. Since 2016, Google Assistant has been a huge part of the Android experience. While it had tough competition in the form of Siri, Amazon Alexa, and Bixby, it proved to be the top assistant of the era. However, when Bard hit the market in 2023, we started floating the idea that Google was carving Assistant’s tombstone for the Google Graveyard.

Bard transitioned to Gemini, but that notion remained. We’ve seen Google phasing Assistant out on smartphones, its primary home, but the company isn’t finished. Another form factor is about to have Assistant yanked away. What’s worse is that Google is doing so in the most annoying way.

Google will remove Assistant from Fitbit watches

Much like Google Assistant, Fitbit is on its last leg. However, Google is still bringing some changes to the platform. The most recent change will leave some people pretty peeved.

Last month, a Fitbit moderator shared a post to the Fitbit community letting us know that Assistant is going away on its smartwatches. More specifically, the post was posted on March 21st, and it read that Google will be progressively disabling Assistant “over the next few weeks.” Since March 21st was, in and of itself, a few weeks ago, we’re sure that the process is well underway by now. This means that they will no longer have access to the voice functions.

What makes this annoying?

If you lose Google Assistant on your phone, big deal; you still have Gemini. However, in the case of Fitbit devices, Google is taking Assistant away and not providing an alternative. That’s pretty frustrating for users who’ve grown accustomed to voice functions.

As pointed out by Android Authority, people in specific regions will be able to access Alexa. That’s not a bad substitute, but it’s still annoying that Google is taking away such a widely used and useful function without providing anything in its place.
