OpenAI has announced the launch of its latest AI model in the form of GPT-4.5. The company notes that this new AI model will be available starting today for Pro users. It will then be rolled out to Plus and Team users next week, then to Enterprise and Edu users the week after that.
So, what’s the difference in GPT-4.5 versus GPT-4o? If you’ve ever tried using GPT-4o, you know that for general purpose it works great. However, this doesn’t mean that it’s perfect. This is something OpenAI has improved upon in GPT-4.5.
According to OpenAI, “Early testing shows that interacting with GPT‑4.5 feels more natural. Its broader knowledge base, improved ability to follow user intent, and greater “EQ” make it useful for tasks like improving writing, programming, and solving practical problems. We also expect it to hallucinate less.”
Basically, users will be able to use the AI model and it feel more natural. It will also have a “warmer” personality thanks to its improved EQ. However, do note that GPT-4.5 is not a reasoning model like OpenAI’s o1 or o3-mini models. This means that for coding or mathematical queries, it’s still better to use o1 or o3-mini. But for day-to-day queries, GPT-4.5 should be a massive improvement over GPT-4o.
However, as we mentioned earlier, this new model is only available for paid subscribers. ChatGPT Pro is a very expensive subscription at $200 a month, making it largely inaccessible for the majority of users. ChatGPT Plus, however, is a bit more affordable at $20 a month.
