Another PS4 game is set to shut down this year, with a free PS5 upgrade offered to existing owners. Multiplayer survival game Rust will be going offline on last-gen consoles, including Xbox One, four years after launch as its current-gen version is released on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S this summer. The PC version remains unaffected.

Rust owners will get free PS5 upgrade but the game will be pulled from PS4

Developer Double Eleven has said that Rust won’t be playable on both current and last-gen consoles simultaneously, choosing instead to focus its attention on the PS5 version. PS4 players can claim the free PS5 upgrade whether they own a current-gen console or not, but won’t be able to continue playing as it is.

Rust PS5 will be available in standard, deluxe, and ultimate editions. Prices and release date will be announced in due course along with upgrade options.

As for when Rust will go offline on PS4, Double Eleven has said that support will end in late October. “To mark the occasion, we are planning something special: the ‘Wipe of Wipes,’ a memorable send-off to celebrate the legacy of old-gen,” the studio wrote.

Rust is currently full-priced on PS Store. We’ll update our readers if it goes on sale.
