Galaxy S25 FE chip might surprise everyone

The Galaxy S25 FE chip might not be what everyone expected—and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Earlier rumors claimed Samsung would reuse the Exynos 2400e from the S24 FE. A solid chip, sure, but not exactly a headline grabber. That would’ve made the S25 FE feel more like a rehash than an upgrade. But now, new reports say Samsung is eyeing something more ambitious: MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400.

It’s not official yet, but according to Notebookcheck, Samsung may be considering the Dimensity 9400 for the Galaxy S25 FE. If true, it would mark a pretty bold move. MediaTek doesn’t often show up in Samsung’s flagship phones, but things are starting to shift. In fact, Samsung already used MediaTek chips in its recent Galaxy Tab S10 series, so this wouldn’t come out of nowhere.

The S25 FE’s final chip hasn’t been confirmed—Exynos 2400e is still in the running—but the Dimensity 9400 has serious upside. Performance-wise, it may actually beat the Exynos in both efficiency and power. That’s something fans of the FE series can get excited about.

So why not go all-in with MediaTek?

Well, that’s where business politics kick in. Samsung would have to rely on TSMC to manufacture the chip, not its own foundries. That could get expensive. Plus, sticking with Exynos would boost Samsung’s own chip division—revenue it keeps in-house. So even if the MediaTek option is better on paper, it might still lose out to internal priorities.

But the fact that Samsung is even considering MediaTek shows they’re looking for ways to differentiate the S25 FE. Last year’s model was decent, but it didn’t stand out. This one might.

After all, using the Dimensity 9400 could help Samsung shake up the mid-flagship space again. It’s a reminder that the FE series isn’t just a watered-down Galaxy—it’s still capable of surprises.
