Free PS5 upgrade

Players have been surprised with yet another free PS5 upgrade of a beloved PS4 game. Hit indie platformer Spelunky 2, which first released in September 2020, is now available to play natively on the PS5. Those who already own the previous version can claim the upgrade for free.

Free PS5 upgrade for Spelunky 2 was shadow dropped

For some reason, developers Mossmouth and BlitWorks didn’t announce or even hint at a PS5 version of Spelunky 2. Players randomly discovered the addition on the PS Store yesterday, so we’re not quite sure how long the PS5 port has been out.

At the time of this writing, Spelunky 2’s PS5 trophy list does not seem to be live, and there are early reports of trophies not popping correctly. However, users who have tested the PS5 version have confirmed that there is a separate trophy list that doesn’t stack or autopop with the PS4 version, but the lists appear identical.

This leads us to believe that Spelunky 2’s PS5 version wasn’t supposed to go live on the PS Store just yet, but someone pulled the trigger a bit early.

The only PS5 feature we can confirm so far, as relayed by players, is that Spelunky 2 runs at 120 frames-per-second on the console.

Spelunky 2 is not available on PS Plus, and is not part of the latest PS Store promotion.
