In the last few years, multiple big tech companies and startups have launched their own chatbots powered by AI models. OpenAI kicked off the AI revolution with ChatGPT, a service that gained a dedicated mobile app a few years later. Google designed Gemini from the start as a tool for mobile devices, while platforms like Claude and Perplexity later arrived with dedicated apps. That said, you can now chat with ChatGPT and Perplexity AI directly on WhatsApp without downloading their dedicated apps.

WhatsApp is currently the most popular instant messaging app worldwide. It boasts a whopping 2 billion active users. Since Meta acquired it, Zuckerberg’s company has been adding many features that were available in rival apps. Now, Meta is turning WhatsApp into a hub for quick access to third-party AI platforms.

Talk to Perplexity AI & ChatGPT directly from WhatsApp

Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity, announced on X/Twitter that you can now chat with Perplexity AI from WhatsApp. You only need to save this phone number: +1 (833) 436-3285. Thereafter, Perplexity AI will appear as a new contact in your list. According to Srinivas, you can talk with the AI-powered chatbot as much as you want. The WhatsApp-integrated version includes features such as chat, question answers, and image generation.

There are fewer features than you’d find in the dedicated app or on Perplexity’s website. Overall, Srinivas stated that Perplexity AI for WhatsApp will receive more features in the near future.

Regarding ChatGPT, OpenAI previously announced the integration with WhatsApp. In this case, you can access the world’s most popular chatbot from the messaging app by adding the following number to your contact list: +1 (800) 242-8478.

Alternatives to Meta AI

Both are now alternatives to Meta AI, the company’s proprietary chatbot powered by the Llama models. Meta AI is accessible from a shortcut in the bottom right corner of the app. The button is permanently present, with no option to hide it. This has led to many accidental activations, raising the ire of users who demand an option to remove it from the UI.
