Speaking with Teekeeus and Earana

After you join the Mages Guild in Chorrol, you'll immediately jump into the Chorrol Recommendation quest by continuing to speak with Teekeeus. The Argonian tells you to get his recommendation, you need to confront a woman named Earana, another mage who goes against what the Mages Guild believes.

Earana is in Chorrol, and if you track the Chorrol Recommendation quest from your journal, you'll see a red or green quest marker pop up on your compass. The green arrow indicates Earana is active and moving, while the red arrow usually means she's sleeping. Earana stays at The Grey Mare tavern, which is located down the hill and to the left of the Mages Guild.

You can usually find Earana outside the Mages Guild in the courtyard if she's not sleeping, so visit her there during the morning or afternoon hours. When you speak to Earana, you'll learn that she wants you to get a very specific book called the "Fingers of the Mountain." However, she explains that it's imperative you don't tell Teekeeus about the book.

Fetching the Fingers of the Mountain

After speaking with Earana about the Fingers of the Mountain, you actually have to go and tell Teekeeus about the book. While you'll be able to pick between Earana and Teekeeus later on in the quest, you have to play both sides for right now. When you tell Teekeeus that the Fingers of the Mountain exists, he's extremely surprised and requests that you go and fetch the book for him at once.

Fortunately, Earana told you exactly where to find it, so all you have to do is follow your quest marker to reach Cloud Top. This is located northwest of Chorrol and isn't too far away, so you should be able to easily walk there. At Cloud Top, ascend the snowy steps to find some charred remains on the ground in front of a stone statue. Interact with the remains to loot the Fingers of the Mountain.

Bringing the Fingers of the Mountain to Teekeeus

Now comes the time when you have to make a choice between Earana and Teekeeus. With the Fingers of the Mountain in your possession, you can either opt to return the book to Teekeeus or Earana, and your decision does play a role in future quests.

If you decide to return the Fingers of the Mountain to Teekeeus, you can do so inside the Chorrol Mages Guild. Teekeeus will be overjoyed that the book is out of Earana's hands, and you'll receive his official recommendation for the Mages Guild. This completes the Chorrol Recommendation quest in Oblivion Remastered.

After you hand the book over to Teekeeus, you won't get an objective to go and find Earana to tell her about your decision. However, you can still do so by either finding her roaming the streets of Chorrol or inside the Grey Mare tavern. When you tell Earana about your decision, she asks that you steal the book back from Teeekeeus. This begins an entirely new quest in Oblivion Remastered if you agree to steal the book. If you say no to stealing the book, the new quest won't start.

Bringing the Fingers of the Mountain to Earana

On the flip side, you can also choose to bring the Fingers of the Mountain straight to Earana, as she instructed you to do in the first place. When you do this, Earana tells you that she plans to translate the book and asks that you return to her in a day or two to pick up the translation.

Use the wait function in Oblivion Remastered to wait for up to three days before Earana is ready to give you her notes on the book. You can either find her on the streets of Chorrol or in the Grey Mare tavern. When you speak to Earana, she'll give you her translation, which you can read by opening the "All" section of your inventory. After reading Earana's notes, you learn that you need to use a specific spell at the peak of Cloud Top to receive a new spell in exchange. Using that spell is a part of the next quest, and reading the notes ends the Chorrol Recommendation quest.

Before you go and try to use the spell, you'll want to return to Teekeeus and tell him that you gave the book to Earana. He'll be furious, but asks that you steal the book back from Earana. This is also a part of the next quest following Chorrol Recommendation.

What's the best outcome for Chorrol Recommendation?

Depsite the choice you make in regard to returning the Fingers of the Mountain, Chorrol Recommendation largely ends the same. Whether you return the book to Teekeeus or Earana, either of them asks you to steal the book for them.

However, there is a best route to take. First, you want to deliver the book to Earana and get her translation of the text. Once you have the translation, tell Teekeeus that Earana has the Fingers of the Mountain. You now have to steal the book back, which is much easier than trying to steal the book from Teekeeus if you initially delivered it to him.

After you steal the book from Earana, you can return to Teekeeus and get his Chorrol Recommendation for the Mages Guild. You can also follow Earana's translation and receive a new spell if you go to Cloud Top. Of course, getting the spell is a part of the "Fingers of the Mountain Part II" quest in Oblivion Remastered, which is triggered once either Teekeeus or Earana asks you to steal the book back for them.
