Foldable iPhone Could Leave Samsung in the Dust with These Two Features

The first foldable iPhone is set to launch next year, and we’re still getting bits and pieces of details for the new form factor. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said in his recent Power On newsletter, that the foldable iPhone will have two key advantages over the competition. He likely is referring to Samsung only as the competition, and not OPPO, Vivo, Xiaomi, and others.

Firstly, the foldable iPhone will sport a crease that is “nearly invisible”. That would make the internal display more seamless and give the user an uninterrupted viewing experience. Secondly, the hinge is going to be “much higher-quality”. Now, the hinges we’re seeing on foldable devices are already made out of titanium in many instances. So we’re unsure what this might mean for the foldable iPhone.

The foldable iPhone will have a smaller outer display and very larger inner display

From the specs that Ming-Chi Kuo has reported on, the iPhone is set to be much wider than the Pixel Fold. Which was already a very wide, foldable device. Kuo says that it will have a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch outer display. Now these screen sizes are very similar to the Pixel Fold from 2023, which was 7.6-inch and 5.8-inch. The outer display had an aspect ratio of 17.4:9.

With these specs, it definitely sounds like the foldable iPhone would be even wider than the Pixel Fold. However, the bezels were quite large on the Pixel Fold. So if they shaved those down, it could end up being about the same aspect ratio as the Pixel Fold, which many loved.

Apple is likely still working on prototypes of its foldable iPhone, since we’re more than a year away from its supposed launch. so things could still change. But one thing is for certain: once the foldable iPhone launches, foldable devices will really start to take off.
