YouTube Music is getting a new share lyrics feature

Summary: YouTube Music is finally letting users share song lyrics as stylish images, catching up to a feature Spotify has offered for years. The tool lets you highlight lyrics, customize the background, and post them directly to social apps. However, it doesn’t appear to be widely available yet.
Sharing lyrics on social media is one of the easiest ways to say, “This is my current mood.” Whether it’s a heartbreak anthem or a hype track, posting a lyric card gives people a peek at what you’re currently jamming out to. Spotify’s had this feature for a while, so it’s a bit surprising that YouTube Music is only now catching up.
But hey, better late than never.
YouTube Music gets more social
YouTube Music just added a new way to share lyrics right from the mobile app. You pick a few lines, choose a background, and the app turns it into a clean little graphic with the album art, song title, and artist up top. There’s a YouTube Music logo at the bottom, and you can either save the image or share it directly to apps like Instagram or WhatsApp.
The feature is available under the Lyrics tab as a new “Share” button. A bit big, but not annoying. Once tapped, you get a selection screen where you highlight the lines you want. After that, there’s a customization page with a color carousel for backgrounds. Finally, users have a choice to save or share it with their apps of choice.
This lyrics-sharing update builds on 2023’s real-time lyrics feature, which revamped the in-app display with bigger text, dynamic highlighting, and clean animations that follow the music. The current line appears in bold white, while everything else fades to gray. It’s simple but elegant and makes it way easier to follow along.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like YouTube is rolling this feature out to many users yet. As noted by 9to5Google, there is only one confirmed sighting on Reddit so far. Maybe YouTube is just testing the feature out, which might explain its limited availability. It also comes on the heels of a new YouTube Music feature called “consistent volume.” This new feature maintains the volume across various songs to prevent unwanted huge changes in volume when going from one song to another.
Either way, it’s a fun new feature that hopefully YouTube rolls out to more users soon.
