Influential Dreamcast Classics for PS4 Are 80% Off on PS Store

Shenmue 1 & 2 is currently 80% off on the PS Store. That brings its typical price of $29.99 down to $5.99. Players will want to act quickly on this deal if they want to grab these iconic Dreamcast games for the low price. The offer ends on June 26 at 2:59 a.m. ET.

“In 1986, teenage jujitsu artist Ryo Hazuki returns to the dojo of his father, Iwao Hazuki, only to witness his murder by a Chinese man, Lan Di,” reads the game’s description. “Lan Di steals a mysterious artifact known as the Dragon Mirror. Ryo vows to avenge his father’s death and sets out tracing Lan Di’s path.”

When the original Shenmue was released for Dreamcast back in 2000, it was well received by critics. According to the review aggregate website Metacritic, it garnered an average score of 88 across 9 critic reviews. Although Shenmue 2 was not as acclaimed, it received favorable reviews, achieving an average score of 80 across 31 critic reviews. In our review of the PS4 ports of Shenmue 1 & 2, we gave it a 7 out of 10.

“We accept these ports as they are, flaws and all, because they have a wonderful and engaging story that has kept fans wanting more for 18 years,” reads our review.

While it may not have aged gracefully, the Shenmue series is one many consider to be highly influential for the video game industry. This is mostly thanks to its world design and implementation of quick time events.
