Electronic Arts‘ annual franchises are known to be cross-gen years after the current generation consoles launch. However, there is always a time where one of these entries completely abandons last-gen consoles. That has is happening with the next entry of a popular sports franchise only releasing for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Madden NFL 26 Is Not Coming to PS4
Today, Electronic Arts announced the release date for Madden NFL 26, the next entry in its incredibly popular and successful football game franchise. Fans can expect to get onto the newly refreshed gridiron on August 14 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. This also confirmed that this is the first entry that will not release for the PS4 and Xbox One, marking the end of an era for football fans on the last-gen consoles.
While the number of cross-gen entries for this generation’s Madden NFL games seems small, it is actually a bit more than the entries that were shared between PS3 and PS4. There were four entries that were split between those two consoles. The PS2 had the most cross-gen entries, with a total of six between 2006 and 2012. So, it isn’t too surprising that Electronic Arts is skipping last-gen consoles with Madden NFL 26, as it has been nearly five years since the PS5 launched.
Along with the Madden NFL 26 release date, Electronic Arts also announced when College Football 26 would launch. Fans of the newly revived franchise can expect to play the next entry on July 10 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Both of these games can be bought together with the MVP bundle, which includes the Deluxe Edition of both games. This will give players 3-Day early access to both games, as well as the On the Clock Pack that comes with a 99 overall Travis Hunter player item. Players can begin preordering the bundle on April 29.
