NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Desktop Family

Summary: NVIDIA has officially confirmed the price and launch date of its RTX 5060 desktop family of GPUs. Both cards will launch with features like DLSS 4, and will range in price from $299 all the way up to over $400.

This week, NVIDIA officially lifted the curtain on the RTX 5060 desktop family of GPUs, revealing the launch dates, price, and specs of each variation of the upcoming graphics card. The RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti are NVIDIA’s entry-level graphics cards and should boast some decent improvements over last generation’s RTX 4060 and RTX 4060 Ti.

However, if they’re anything like the more powerful GPUs this gen compared to the 40-series counterparts, the hardware improvements aren’t necessarily going to be leaps and bounds over their predecessors. This seems likely as much of NVIDIA’s RTX 50-series GPUs have largely focused on DLSS 4. That is to say, improvements that DLSS 4 brings to performance thanks to the emergence of multi-frame generation. Rather than the pure hardware rasterization performance boost that people were hoping for.

Still, the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti should be great GPUs for anyone using something older than an RTX 40-series option. For instance, if you’re running an RTX 3060, the bump to an RTX 5060 Ti is likely to introduce substantial performance gains. That being said, that’s all assuming you can get your hands on one. These may not be NVIDIA’s most powerful GPUs, but they’re still new NVIDIA GPUs. They’re supposed to be relatively inexpensive at MSRP, which provides an easy outlet for scalpers to make a profit.

And unfortunately, these GPUs seem like easy targets given their already low entry price. Hopefully that isn’t the case, though.

The price of the NVIDIA RTX 5060 family starts at $299

There’s no dancing around the fact that NVIDIA’s RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 are expensive GPUs. Even at MSRP, both models feel prohibitively expensive and are likely to price out more than a few consumers. While these are the two most powerful GPUs in the 50-series, a fair amount of performance comes from multi-frame generation as part of DLSS 4.

The RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti come with DLSS 4 just like their beefier counterparts. So they’ll end up with some decent performance even with less powerful specs. That should make them an attractive prospect to anyone who doesn’t need the biggest and the best, but does want something powerful while being able to spend considerably less money.

At a starting price of $299, the RTX 5060 promises decent gains for a reasonable price point. Again, though, this really might all depend on what your current hardware is. It’s also worth noting that at the moment, there aren’t any user comparisons or reviews between the RTX 4060 family and this new family. So all there is to go off of is NVIDIA’s internal testing, which likely includes DLSS 4 running on the new cards. A more accurate hardware-to-hardware comparison should be available in the near future.

If you want a more substantial gain, the RTX 5060 Ti will launch in 8GB and 16GB models, and they start at a price of $379 and $429, respectively. Keep in mind, these are NVIDIA’s suggested MSRP prices. This doesn’t mean this is what we’ll see exactly from its board partners. In addition to that, there are likely to be various iterations of each GPU model, with varying prices to match.

The RTX 5060 Ti models launch first

This is unsurprising if you’ve been around the PC gaming GPU space long enough. NVIDIA has detailed the launch dates for all three GPUs in the RTX 5060 family of desktop graphics cards. Officially, the RTX 5060 Ti will be the first GPU available. This will come out in an 8GB model and a 16GB model, as mentioned before. Both versions will launch on April 16. That’s tomorrow at the time of writing.

For the standard RTX 5060, NVIDIA doesn’t give a hard date for the launch, just that it’s coming in May. So if this is the card you’re going for, you’ll have to wait until next month. In terms of specs and performance details, the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti boast 3,840 and 4,608 CUDA cores, respectively. The RTX 5060 has a 145W TGP, meanwhile, the Ti model bumps the TGP up to 180W.

Both will use the PCIe Gen 5.0 X8 standard, which could mean that some users are going to need to upgrade their motherboards to use these GPUs. That could make them considerably more expensive investments. For performance, both cards look promising based on NVIDIA’s testing. The company says that at 1440p with max settings, the RTX 5060 Ti was able to double the frame rate of the RTX 4060 Ti in Hogwarts Legacy, bumping it from 87 frames per second to 171 frames per second. The gap was even further between it and the RTX 3060 Ti, which was able to produce about 34 frames per second with the same settings.

Again, much of this boost likely comes from DLSS4 with multi-frame generation. But, does it really matter if the game still looks better and runs more smoothly? Probably not.
