Microsoft 365 administrators faced significant challenges today as an ongoing outage prevented access to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center and the Exchange Admin Center (EAC).
The issue, reported by the official Microsoft 365 Status account on X (@MSFT365Status) and is actively investigating the cause.
The outage has left admins unable to perform critical tasks such as managing email services, user accounts, and licenses. Users attempting to access the EAC have encountered HTTP 500 errors or blank pages.
Microsoft has alerted as “Service Degradation” and confirmed that end-user email functionality remains unaffected, but the inability to access administrative tools has disrupted IT operations for many organizations.
Downdetector.com, a platform tracking real-time service outages, noted a sharp increase in Microsoft 365-related complaints on April 15. Users reported authentication issues alongside Admin Center access problems, indicating the outage’s broader impact.
“We’ve identified infrastructure in the West US region that is performing below acceptable thresholds. We’re routing traffic to alternate infrastructure as a potential mitigation,” Microsoft stated in the update, directing users to http://status.cloud.microsoft for more details or to follow incident ID MO1056087 if the Admin Center is accessible.
Few hours back, “Microsoft also reported the issue impacting Files sharing functionality within Microsoft Teams. Further details can be found under TM1055900 in the admin center.”
As a workaround, Microsoft advised admins to use the direct URL (https://admin.exchange.microsoft.com), which has restored access for some users. A configuration change has been deployed to redirect requests to a functional URL, and Microsoft is monitoring the service to ensure stability.
The outage has sparked frustration on X, with IT professionals reporting delays in critical tasks. Microsoft continues to provide updates via the Service Health Dashboard at http://status.cloud.microsoft and Microsoft urging admins to stay informed as efforts to resolve the issue proceed.
Update: 3.42 PM EST: Microsoft moved quickly to address the issue, and by 19:38 UTC on April 15, 2025, the company confirmed the resolution. “We’ve verified by monitoring telemetry that redirecting traffic to healthy infrastructure has successfully remediated the issue. Further information can be found in the admin center under MO1059087,” Microsoft announced on X.
