Samsung Wallet’s New Feature Makes Galaxy S25 Payments Smarter

Today, Samsung is announcing a new feature for Samsung Wallet, called ‘Tap to Transfer’. It’s exactly what it sounds like. Samsung will now let you make peer-to-peer (P2P) payments quickly and conveniently in the US. This means you can stop using Venmo and Zelle, and just tap your Galaxy S25 Ultra to your friend’s old Galaxy S24 Ultra to pay them back for lunch, or something else.

Samsung says that this is thanks to their collaboration with Visa and Mastercard, and it allows you to use a debit card you have stored in Samsung Wallet to send money to friends and family members’ bank accounts, without the need for an additional app.

Samsung Wallet does use NFC to connect to the recipients’ debit cards stored in their digital wallet. And to make this even better, you can also transfer money to people without a digital wallet as long as they have a physical debit card with tap-to-pay capabilities. Which should be nearly every card at this point.

This does not appear to work with non-Samsung devices, as Tap to Transfer looks to be exclusive to Samsung Wallet and not Google Wallet. Which is rather unfortunate, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see Google add a feature like this to Google Wallet later this month at Google I/O.

This is very similar to a feature that Apple debuted back in 2022. Apple tried to put Square out of business by allowing businesses to take payments via their smartphone. So who’s catching up now?

This feature will start to roll out later this month.
