Google is undoubtedly one of the leading names in the AI industry. For some time now, the company has been adding plans to its Google One platform that include advanced artificial intelligence features across its software services. Now, it seems the firm wants to further gamify its AI service offering to adapt to a wider audience. Google is reportedly working on new Gemini tiers, such as Gemini Plus and Gemini Ultra, in addition to the existing ones.
In April, Android Authority detected the first clues about new upcoming Google One plans. These tiers would be called “Google One AI Premium Plus” and “Google One AI Premium Pro.” As their names suggest, they could focus on offering AI-powered features, alongside additional cloud storage and other perks. Currently, users who want access to Google’s AI features can only subscribe to one plan: Google AI Premium. Business users also have their plans with AI features, though.
Google could launch new Gemini Ultra and Gemini Pro AI-focused paid plans
Now, TestingCatalog has found new strings pointing to the arrival of two new Gemini subscription levels. According to the report, users will have access to Gemini Pro and Gemini Ultra plans. The new tiers could offer greater flexibility and adaptability to each user’s needs. After all, not everyone uses AI in the same way or with the same frequency. It’s possible that if you use it occasionally or for relatively simple tasks, you don’t need to pay for an expensive plan with access to multiple options that you’ll never use. This also applies to those who want more AI power in their lives.
Currently, there are no details about what the new tiers will offer. Google already uses “Pro” and “Ultra” as a way to label its AI models, with Ultra being the most powerful. The subscription level you pay for will likely impact various parameters. The list could include usage limits, context window size, processing speed, and more. We could learn more details at the upcoming Google I/O event.
The potential move would bring Gemini closer to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Sam Altman’s company already offers different tiers: Plus, Pro, Team, and Enterprise. However, OpenAI has been struggling to become truly profitable. OpenAI’s CEO said some weeks ago that the company is still losing money even with subscribers to the $200/month Pro plan.
