Google recently announced that it was introducing new features in Google Wallet for users in the United States and United Kingdom, as well as expanded services to 50 additional countries in the coming weeks and months.
First up, users in the United Kingdom will soon be able to create and save digital ID passes using their U.K. passports in Google Wallet. Google says that it’s also working with Rail Delivery Group which will allow travellers to use their digital ID for verification purposes with select Railcards. Additionally, Google is considering working with the digital identity trust framework of the U.K.’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, to allow buyers to use their Google Wallet for purchases which require age verification.

For the US, residents of Arkansas, Montana, Puerto Rico and West Virginia will soon be able to save government-issued digital IDs to Google Wallet, while users living in Arizona, Georgia, Maryland and New Mexico, users will also be able to use their mobile IDs at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for transactions.
For air travel, users can also present their ID passes created from US passports for TSA security for domestic travel (at supported airports), even if they lack a REAL ID driver’s license or state-issued ID. It should be noted though that ID passes created using UK passports aren’t eligible for use at TSA security.
Google adds that users will soon be able to use their digital IDs to recover Amazon accounts, access online health services with CVS and MyChart by Epic, and even verify profiles on platforms like Uber and more. Additionally, the company is integrating Zero Knowledge Proof (ZKP) technology into Google Wallet for more secure age verification without compromising user identity.
