Editing photos in your photo gallery isn’t an issue. However, creating a shared photo album on Google Photos becomes slightly trickier. The good news is that Google is changing that. The company has announced an update to Google Photos on Android that allows users to edit photos in a shared album.

Editing photos in a shared album on Android

According to Google, “Have you ever wanted to edit your photos or videos in shared albums? Well great news, because now you can on Android devices. You can change your own photos and videos and save them to both your gallery and shared album. Only the owner can edit a photo or video in a shared album. Note that edits made to shared photos in your gallery will still reflect in your shared album. To make edits privately, make sure to Save as copy after editing“.

Before this, Google Photos was annoying. When an image was added to a shared album, it couldn’t be edited. After this change, Google Photos users can now edit their shared photos. However, as per Google’s announcement, you must be the owner of the photo to edit it.

Option was already available in Photos’ web version and iOS/iPadOS

This means that if you’re part of a shared album with your family members where everyone is uploading their holiday images, you can only edit the photos you uploaded. You cannot edit a photo someone else uploaded. It’s noteworthy that this feature was already live for the web version of Google Photos, iPhone, and iPad devices.

This update isn’t the only change Google is making to Google Photos. Recently, the company pushed out an update that gives users an opportunity to make a quick edit of a photo before sharing. It also introduced an Ultra HDR tool that lets users convert older photos into an Ultra HDR photo that looks more vibrant and saturated.
