Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Edge could replace the Plus model in 2026

Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Edge strategy could shake up the company’s traditional S-series playbook. A new report suggests Samsung is considering dropping the Plus model from next year’s lineup and replacing it with the S26 Edge.

That’s based on a machine translation of a report by The Elec. According to the report, the Galaxy S26 series is codenamed “NPA” and will include three devices: a base model, an Edge, and the Ultra. In 2025, the Galaxy S25 Plus was widely seen as the weakest link in the lineup. It was estimated to have shipped just 6.7 million units out of 37.7 million total. For comparison, the S25 base model is targeted at 13.6 million units, while the S25 Ultra is allocated 17.4 million.

So it’s no surprise Samsung is considering a replacement.

The Galaxy S26 Edge could become that replacement. However, this is only if the S25 Edge sells well enough to prove there’s demand. Samsung is reportedly closely watching the Edge variant’s market performance. If it underwhelms, the company could scrap it and keep the Plus model around instead.

According to a Samsung insider, the company is also developing four different OLED panels for the S26 series. It’s unclear how they will be distributed across the three models. That said, if the Edge is meant to straddle the line between the base and Ultra, we could see Samsung experiment with curved panels again—or go all-in on differentiated mid-tier flagship design.
