Earlier this month, Apple finally agreed to pay $95 million in settlement regarding a class action lawsuit that accused Siri of spying on users. Those affected users have started receiving emails from the Cupertino tech giant regarding their claim from the settlement. Apple is delivering these emails with the subject line, “Lopez Voice Assistant Class Action Lawsuit.”
Soon after Apple started sending these emails out, many Apple users worried if they were about something else. However, you don’t need to worry about this email, as you might even get something out of it.
Apple informing people eligible to claim the Lopez v. Apple Settlement
If you received an email with the subject line mentioned above and feel worried, that’s completely understandable. You likely qualify for a portion of the $95 million settlement from Apple. This notification informs you of that.
The settlement is related to Lopez v. Apple Inc., a 2019 class action lawsuit. The allegations claim that the company violated users’ privacy by recording their conversations and sharing them with third-party contractors.
Apple agreed to pay out to the affected users earlier this year but denied the allegations. The company claimed that it was part of a quality control program. Apple also stated that it has never sold Siri data to third parties or used it for advertising purposes.
Here’s how you can claim your Siri settlement
If you’ve used a Siri-enabled device, like an iPhone and others, you have from now until the 2nd of July, 2025, to file a claim. You can file for the claim through the settlement website. If you are successful in submitting your claim, you can get a settlement from Apple of up to $100. Some affected Apple users have already received an email regarding the settlement or a postcard with a claim identification & confirmation code.
As of now, it’s not clear when Apple will send these payments out. The court has tentatively scheduled the final approval hearing for August 1st, and we can expect more clarification after that.
