When it comes to smartphone carriers in the US, you have your big three: AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. However, if you’re willing to look outside of the big three, Xfinity Mobile might be worth taking a look at. Xfinity Mobile has announced its new Premium Unlimited plan, offering more features, gigabit-level speeds, and half the price.

Xfinity Mobile’s new Premium Unlimited plan

The new Xfinity Premium Unlimited plan includes some serious perks. For starters, you’re getting 4K UHD streaming. Many carriers tend to throttle video quality to 720p or 1080p unless you pay extra. Here, you get the full resolution without needing to jump through additional hoops.

Hotspot access also sees a notable bump. Xfinity is offering 30GB of 5G hotspot data per month, which is plenty for light work on a laptop or tablet while traveling. That’s a big jump from what many budget-friendly or even mid-tier plans typically offer.

That’s in addition to a feature called WiFi PowerBoost, which hooks into Xfinity’s home and public WiFi network to deliver gigabit speeds. This works even when you’re not on mobile data. If you’re an Xfinity Internet customer, you can also get an unlimited mobile line free for a year.

Another standout perk is the twice-a-year phone upgrade option. As long as you’ve got a qualifying trade-in, Xfinity will knock up to $830 off the cost of a new device, which makes upgrading to the latest smartphone more feasible than ever. Last but not least is upgraded call protection via Xfinity Call Guard. This feature blocks spam calls before they even ring. It’s a feature baked into the plan, not something you have to toggle on or subscribe to separately.

An alternative to the major carriers

Xfinity Mobile has been slowly making a name for itself as an alternative to the major carriers in the US.

The company already offers a $40/month Unlimited Intro plan that gives you 30GB of data before slowdowns. This is great value if you don’t need the premium bells and whistles. But with this new Premium Unlimited tier, it’s aiming to offer all the perks while still being cheaper than the major carriers.

For anyone already paying over $100/month for two lines on another carrier, it’s worth checking if you’re leaving money on the table. Especially now that T-Mobile is quietly raising legacy plan prices, and Verizon isn’t exactly known for being budget-friendly.
