Tech experts have confirmed that a long-running PS5 / PS5 Pro VRR (variable refresh rate) stuttering issue still hasn’t been fixed by Sony, and the problem occurs in newly released games as well. We’ve been reporting on this issue since February, but it predates our reporting.

PS5/PS5 Pro VRR stuttering issue affects newly released Days Gone Remastered

Digital Foundry confirmed back in March that the problem is on Sony’s end rather than certain TV models, like some players had long assumed. Now, the outlet has used its own in-house VRR capture and analysis tools to demonstrate the stuttering.

In the video below, we can see how Days Gone Remastered begins stuttering every eight seconds or so. VRR on PS5/PS5 Pro seems to work normally at first, but the stuttering begins after 20 minutes of gameplay. It’s less noticeable on lower frame rates.

As previously reported, the issue doesn’t affect all games, but the following titles are confirmed to be impacted alongside Days Gone Remastered:

  • Diablo 4
  • Elden Ring
  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • The Last of Us Part 1
  • The Last of Us Part 2
  • Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
  • Metaphor Refantazio
  • Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

We’re pretty sure that there are more out there.

Digital Foundry says that the issue has been around since PS5 Pro’s launch, and the outlet has reported it to Sony. However, the company has yet to issue a fix.
