The Last Of Us 2 PS5 Update Features Unexpected New Content

Just when everyone thought support for The Last of Us Part II was over, Naughty Dog has to come in and announce new stuff on a random Thursday in March. An upcoming update for the game is on its way very soon, bringing new content to the five-year-old, critically acclaimed narrative action game.

The Last of Us 2’s No Return mode gets new maps, characters, and trophies

Much of the update from Naughty Dog pertains to the PC release of The Last of Us 2, which launches on April 3. The release will include new content for its No Return mode, a roguelike survival mode that was added to the game when the PS5 remaster launched early last year. Specifically, Bill (Smuggler playstyle) and Marlene (Risk-Taker playstyle) will be playable in the “fan-favorite” mode.

Additionally, four new maps will be added in the form of Overlook, School, Streets, and Nest. Trophy hunters will be excited to hear that this new content will be joined alongside new earnable trophies.

Lastly, a new Ellie skin based on Naughty Dog’s next game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, will be added to The Last of Us 2. The skin gives Ellie Jordan A. Mun’s red jacket, as seen in the game’s reveal trailer from The Game Awards 2024. It will be unlockable with in-game bonus points.

All of this will be available on the same day as The Last of Us 2’s PC release at no additional cost. It will be included in the scheduled 2.0.0 patch.

All this new The Last of Us 2 content comes just a little over a week before The Last of Us Season 2 premieres on Max. The next season of the hit television adaptation begins on April 13 with Pedro Pascal (Fantastic Four: First Steps) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) set to return as Joel Miller and Ellie Williams respectively. Kaitlyn Dever (Apple Cider Vinegar) will make her debut as Abby Anderson.
