2025 appears to be the year when major U.S. carriers are ramping up to offer satellite texting to their users. Just yesterday, Verizon announced satellite messaging for its customers with select Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel smartphones. Now, two other carriers are jumping on the same bandwagon. Today, Comcast’s and Charter’s respective mobile services, Xfinity Mobile and Spectrum Mobile, have launched emergency messaging over satellite.

Xfinity & Spectrum announces emergency satellite messaging for select Android phones

Similar to Verizon, customers of Xfinity Mobile and Spectrum Mobile will require a Galaxy S25 or Pixel 9 series phone to enjoy satellite messaging. The non-terrestrial network service provider, Skylo, is reportedly powering emergency satellite messaging for both carriers.

Do note that Skylo also facilitates this service for Verizon and has also worked with Google in the past to introduce the Satellite SOS feature on the Pixel 9 series. Unlike Verizon, Xfinity Mobile and Spectrum Mobile now allow users with the said phones to send emergency messages over satellite. If you are their customer and are in a network dead zone, you can send emergency messages from now on.

In the coming weeks, customers on both carriers will be able to send and receive SMS text messages over satellite. Following today’s announcement, Xfinity Mobile and Spectrum Mobile join the ever-growing list of carriers starting to offer some sort of satellite connectivity.

Multiple U.S. carriers are racing to bring this service to their customers

Besides Xfinity, Spectrum, and Verizon, T-Mobile is another big name that has been ramping up its efforts to bring satellite connectivity to its customers. In fact, the company has also started beta-testing its system with SpaceX’s Starlink network. Only time will tell when will the stable rollout begin. AT&T, on the other hand, has successfully tested the video calling feature over satellite, in collaboration with AST SpaceMobile. It’ll be interesting to see when the company rolls out that feature to its customers.
