Trump tariffs strike again, as Philips confirms Hue price hikes

Philips is the latest to be affected by tariffs imposed by the Trump administration as it confirms that its Hue products will be getting a price increase in the US. For those unaware, Philips’ Hue products are a range of smart home lighting products that you can outfit your home with. They include a wide variety of items from smart light bulbs that fit inside your standard tableside and floor lamps, to LED strips and even outdoor lighting. Prior to the tariffs taking place, Philips Hue smart lights were already expensive. Often sitting at the top end of the pricing tier in comparison to similar options.

For example, a single A19 – E26 bulb, which is a 60W warm-to-cool white and color bulb in the Philips Hue line, is $49.99. A similar option from Govee is $17.99 on Amazon. That’s for a 2-pack. With these tariffs, the already pricey smart lights are bound to be pushed out of reach for even more consumers. Although this could mean good things for Govee and other competitors who often sell these bulbs at much lower costs.

Philips says the Hue price increases are a direct result of the tariffs, and prices go up on July 1

Philips has confirmed that the price hikes are a direct result of the tariffs, mentioning as much to the Hue Blog. The confirmation comes from Signify, which runs the Hue brand, and spoke to Hue Blog recently.

As for when the prices are set to increase, customers can expect to pay more for Hue products beginning July 1. That’s just one week away. In short, you should buy all the Hue products you want now. Before the prices go higher. Of course, that’s assuming you were even considering smart lights. Not to mention looking to the Hue brand over others.

Trump’s tariffs have been sweeping across industries, resulting in sometimes undue panic. Tariffs have threatened to raise prices on all kinds of products, but haven’t always resulted in those increases.
