Nintendo Sues Accessory Firm Genki Over "Unauthorized" Switch 2 Lineup

Back at CES 2025, gaming accessory company Genki showed off a new line of Nintendo Switch 2 accessories--and it provided a 3D-printed model of the then-unannounced console for reference. That model has officially drawn the ire of Nintendo, as the company has filed a lawsuit against Genki for what it calls "trademark infringement, unfair competition, and false advertising."The lawsuit says that Genki broke multiple laws in its marketing of what Nintendo calls "unauthorized Nintendo Switch 2 accessories," which Nintendo alleges could lead to confusion for potential Switch 2 owners. The paperwork also references multiple instances of Genki's marketing of its Switch 2 lineup, including a "Genki Direct" livestream which aired at the same time as the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct in April, as well as renders shown at CES 2025 of the then-unannounced console.Nintendo Switch 2"Consumers are likely to falsely perceive a connection, association, sponsorship, or affiliation between Defendant and its products and services on the one hand and those of Nintendo and its licensees on the other," the suit reads.
