OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has announced a delay in the rollout of ChatGPT’s new AI image generator to free users. So, if you are keen to join the trend, you’ll have to pay. Currently, only subscribers to the Plus, Pro, or Team tiers can use the advanced image generation tool.

“Images in ChatGPT are wayyyy more popular than we expected (and we had pretty high expectations),” Altman said. “Rollout to our free tier is unfortunately going to be delayed for a while,” he added. Sadly, “a while” isn’t a very specific timeframe, so there are no details on when free ChatGPT users will be able to use the tool. Let’s hope news about this emerges soon.
