YouTube access on PS Portal

PS Portal users don’t have access to YouTube by default, but continue to find new ways to access the platform. This new method caught our attention because it involves a free-to-play PS4 game. That’s right, there’s apparently a way to access YouTube through Sky: Children of the Light.

PS Portal users will have a better experience with YouTube on a phone or tablet

Sky: Children of the Light is a social multiplayer game by Journey, Flower developer Thatgamecompany. The game originally released in 2019, and was ported over to the PS4 in December 2022.

While Sky: Children of the Light isn’t available to stream directly via PS Plus Premium, PS Portal users can remote play it while connected to the PS5. The game’s screen links players to its social media channels, including YouTube.

A Reddit user discovered that by using the right analog stick to access the YouTube icon, they’re able to access the platform, although the experience isn’t great when using full screen. The video below shows where the YouTube icon is located.

It’s probably a better idea to use an official YouTube app on a phone or tablet, but we are impressed with people’s ability to find workarounds like these.

We’ll be surprised if Sony bothers plugging this “loophole.”
