YouTube has been testing a few new features lately that will help users in some way or another. According to a new report, YouTube is now testing a feature that will show fewer notifications from channels that you don’t visit regularly.

YouTube tests a new system that shows fewer notifications from channels you rarely visit

Although it could be subjective, many of you may have stopped watching videos published by YouTube channels you subscribed to and hit the “All” notifications options a few years back. You may have lost interest in the content uploaded by such channels, or you simply have developed a taste for new video content. The reasons could be many.

However, you may have noticed that all the notifications from such YouTube channels still pop up on your device. While you can go and unsubscribe from the channel to stop such notifications, many of you simply discard them from the notification screen. Some of you may go even further and block notifications from YouTube altogether.

Guess what? The video-sharing platform seems to be well aware of all this. In its support page for tests and experiments, YouTube notes, “Viewers who haven’t recently engaged with a channel despite having been sent recent push notifications will not receive push notifications in the experiment.” It’s worth noting that the test doesn’t affect notifications from channels that push videos infrequently.

That’s not all; YouTube won’t reduce the notifications from channels you interact with regularly. Say, you recently subscribed to a channel and have hit the “All” notifications button. In that case, you’ll still get all the notifications. However, as you start to interact less with those channels over time, YouTube will push fewer notifications to you.

It’s unclear if or when the system will go into effect for all users

While it’s beneficial for you, Google is ensuring that you don’t completely block YouTube notifications with this move. Not to forget, YouTube is still testing this feature. Therefore, it’ll be interesting to see if or when the platform rolls out this system. Recently, YouTube also started testing a experimental Premium features that bring recommendations right into the playback queue.
