If you own a Meta Quest 3 headset, then we have some pretty big news for you. The company is gearing up to release an update that will bring some neat features. This upcoming Horizon OS V76 update could bring more robust screen sharing and a much-awaited feature.

It’s important to note that it will be some time before the official release. Right now, Meta is testing out this release among its beta testers. If you’re a part of the beta program, then you should be excited. However, if you’re not, then you’ll be playing the waiting game for a bit longer.

The Horizon OS V76 update could bring some welcomed changes to Meta Quest 3 headsets

Up first, this is for people who typically join group calls in VR. Back in 2022, Meta teased a selfie camera feature that will create a virtual selfie camera with your avatar front and center. Well, this update will bring the ability to use this feature for WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger calls.

X user Luna posted a screenshot of the settings interface for this feature. You’ll be able to choose the field of view for your video feed and choose a static background image. Basically, if someone is on a call with you, they’ll see a live feed of your avatar.

Screen sharing

The next feature is an expansion of one that has already existed. People who have a Meta Quest 3 headset can screen share what they’re watching on YouTube with other people in Horizon Home. It’s a neat social feature to get friends involved with what you’re watching. Horizon OS V76 will enable this feature for more 2D apps.

At this point, we’re still in the dark about many of the details. It looks like this feature will be more generally available for 2D apps. So, you will be able to see what other people are seeing on their Quest headsets. This is a neat feature because it’s not as easy for other people to see your gameplay in XR as it is for a traditional TV. It doesn’t look like this feature will arrive soon, as it may be a few updates away. It might land in V77.
