Unlike Android, where OEMs state how long they will support their devices, Apple doesn’t mention any of that for iOS support. However, iPhone users never had to worry as Apple usually offered at least five years of support. That said, according to the latest rumors, iOS 19 is expected to drop support for these iPhones: the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max.

Supported iOS 19 models

According to the report, which 9to5Mac cited as a private and anonymous account on X, the list of devices eligible to get iOS 19 includes the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, iPhone 12 and 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13 and 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max, iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16e, iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, iPhone SE (2nd gen), and iPhone SE (3rd gen).

That’s quite an extensive list, but the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max models are missing. What’s interesting is that this rumor contradicts an earlier one. Back in December, iPhoneSoft claimed that all iPhones that can run iOS 18 would be able to run iOS 19. Now, this report suggests that Apple will drop these three iPhones from the iOS 19 support list.

To be fair, the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max were released in 2018, which means that they’re about seven years old by now. Apple has supported these devices for the past six years, which is actually quite commendable. Also, the number of owners of these devices is probably pretty low, so it won’t affect too many users.

iOS 19 design change and more

From what we’ve heard, iOS 19 will introduce a massive revamp to the UI. This is a revamp we haven’t seen since iOS 7. Apple has kept the iOS UI largely the same since its major shakeup in iOS 7. The company made some tweaks and refinements here and there, but for the most part, it looks the same.

However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claims that iOS 19 could offer a major visual redesign. The key focus of the update is consistency, as Apple is trying to bring the experience across its platforms together. This doesn’t mean iOS will merge with macOS. Instead, it will focus on making the behavior of the menus and icons more consistent across Apple products.

We’ve also heard that Apple isn’t going to introduce major Apple Intelligence features. Instead, the company will focus on existing features but offer deeper integration into native apps. Apple will announce iOS 19 at WWDC 2025 in June, so we should have more details about supported devices then.
