Another rare Apple-1 computer fetches staggering price at auction
Apple 1 Computer Auction

RR Auction House’s “Steve Jobs and the Apple Revolution” exhibition has finally wrapped. The auction started in late February, and bidders finalized the bids on March 20. The auction contained more than 200 Apple- and Jobs-related goods. Some of the items in the auction have fetched some serious money, like an Apple-1 that marked the beginning of the Cupertino tech giant.

The Apple-1 sold by RR Auction is fully functional

Apple co-founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak sold the Apple-1 as their first computer. A few of them remain in the wild, so they fetch high prices at auctions. Notably, this particular Apple-1 computer ended up selling for a whopping $375,000. The auction featured the Apple-1 known as the “Bayville” Apple-1. It is on the number 91 on the Apple-1 Registry, which aggregates all known remaining Apple-1 computers. Notably, the registry has details and history of each 104 Apple-1 on the list.

It’s worth adding that the “Bayville” Apple-1 belonged to the first batch of Apple computers sold in 1976. Apple sold it with an original manual and a handwritten note by Daniel Kottke, Apple’s employee number 12 at the time. Most notably, Steve Jobs presumably penned a handwritten serial number on all units.

Corey Cohen, an expert in vintage Apple devices, meticulously restored the Apple-1 sold at the auction to operational condition. The fully operational Apple-1 received an “exceptional” rating of 8.0 out of 10 due to its “outstanding cosmetic preservation”. Furthermore, it has “disgustingly bright labeling on its integrated circuits”.

“Owning an Apple-1 is more than possessing a computer; it’s a piece of history—a direct connection to the groundbreaking vision of Jobs, Wozniak, and the pioneering team that transformed the world of technology,” said Bobby Livingston, Executive Vice President of RR Auction.

Other items that brought in massive amounts at the auction

Apart from the Apple-1 computer, the “Steve Jobs and the Apple Revolution auction also sold a handful of items at high prices. A Steve Jobs signed Apple Computer Co. check fetched $112,054, and another one for $62,500. Furthermore, a rare, sealed first-gen 4GB Apple iPhone generated $84,514 at the auction.

The auction also sold an Apple Lisa Computer with “Twiggy” Drives for $56,818. There are still a handful of Apple-related items at the sale on RR Auction’s website.
