The Biggest Game Releases Of April 2025

April marks the start of the second quarter of the gaming year, and this is traditionally where things really start to heat up on the calendar. This year is no different, as you can look forward to South of Midnight on Xbox and PC, the best Indiana Jones game of all time heading to PS5, and a few remasters for good measure.

The main attraction in April will likely be the Switch 2 Direct on April 2, as Nintendo will be hosting a livestream dedicated to its new console. We still don't know what we're going to see, but we're expecting a sneak peek at games for the system, pricing details, and a release date.

For a closer look at what the rest of the year holds in store, you can check out GameSpot's list of upcoming 2025 video games, the best games of 2025 so far, and a look at the most-anticipated games on the way per platform:

Steel Hunters

  • Release date: April 2
  • Platforms: PC

Times are tough right now for new live-service games, but World of Tanks creator Wargaming might have an ace up its sleeve with its next release, Steel Hunters. Switching gears from classic military hardware to mechs that wouldn't look out of place in the Transformers universe, Steel Rising is an ambitious combo of battle royale and extraction-shooter gameplay mechanics, all topped off with some hero-shooter inspiration.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered

  • Release date: April 3
  • Platforms: PC

The Last of Us is launching a one-two combo in April, as in addition to the TV series returning for a second season, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will be landing on PC this month as well. A sequel that shows just how destructive revenge can be on the mind, body, and soul, the remastered edition also features new behind-the-scenes content, a fun roguelike mode, and a selection of extras to make a new playthrough of the gripping campaign more fun.

Sand

  • Release date: April 3
  • Platforms: PC

Following hot on the heels of Steel Rising is Sand, another PvPvE extraction-shooter set in an alternate universe. The big difference here is that the game looks like an unofficial steampunk sequel to Wild Wild West, as you get to pilot a gigantic spider-like Trampler mech across a vast post-apocalyptic world. When you're not fending off rival players, you'll be free to loot and extract valuable resources in this hostile world.

The Renovator: Origins

  • Release date: April 4
  • Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S

The Renovator: Origins is not the title of a new Jason Statham action movie, but it is a new psychological-horror game that'll be out this month on console following its PC release last year. As the son of a museum worker who died tragically, it's up to you to find the courage to explore several exhibits that hide strange secrets and curses in this spooky adventure.

South of Midnight

  • Release date: April 8
  • Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X|S

2025 is shaping up to be an impressive year for Xbox, as after the release of Avowed, the next high-profile game headed to PC and Xbox Series X|S is South of Midnight. Set in the American South, the Compulsion Games-developed adventure puts you in the boots of magic-wielding protagonist Hazel as she searches for her mother across a world of magic and folklore. While the gameplay doesn't feel groundbreaking, it's the spooky art direction, storytelling, and world-building where South of Midnight could potentially shine.

Driveloop: Survivors

  • Release date: April 9
  • Platforms: PC

We've seen quite a few games released in the same vein as Vampire Survivors over the last couple of years, but Driveloop: Survivors puts a novel tire-spin on the formula by putting you behind the wheel of a car that you can use to drift and blast your way through hordes of enemies. It's still a roguelike game at its core, so expect to crash, burn, and repeat the entire process all over again as you get incrementally stronger along the way.

Commandos: Origins

  • Release date: April 9
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S

In a bygone age, Commandos was all the rage thanks to its solid roster of World War 2 specialists and challenging levels. While times and tastes have changed, the tactical-stealth series is making a return with an origin story that shows how the wartime gang came together during a mission to save the world from the vile Axis forces threatening it. Like the previous games, you'll need to make careful use of each character's unique abilities as you go behind enemy lines, and if you feel outnumbered, you can always call in a friend to help you out in the two-player co-op mode.

Promise Mascot Agency

  • Release date: April 10
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch

RGG Studio might have some competition when it comes to open-world Yakuza games, because Promise Mascot Agency looks like an even weirder adventure set in the criminal underbelly of Japan than any recent Like a Dragon game. True to its name, Promise Mascot Agency sees you play as a disgraced Yakuza tasked with running a mascot agency, with the twist here being that each adorable creature is real. There are no men in fancy suits, only strange organisms that you can recruit and exploit as you look to pay off a massive debt while exploring absurd mysteries across town.

The Talos Principle: Reawakened

  • Release date: April 10
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S

The Talos Principle isn't just one of the best puzzle games ever made; it's also a thought-provoking experience designed to challenge your view of life. Ten years later, the game is getting a new edition that substantially overhauls the graphics, throws in existing and new DLC, and a level editor on PC. Developer Croteam says that you can also expect new content and enhanced gameplay as you're faced with philosophical questions about the human condition.

Warside

  • Release date: April 14
  • Platform: PC

Is there a fine line between inspiration and imitation? Warside might just be a fascinating case study on this topic, as the upcoming turn-based tactics game looks verysimilar to Nintendo's Advance War games. Like its primary source of strategic stimulus, Warside combines a charming art direction with a battlefield full of unique units, commanders, and abilities that can be used to win skirmishes. The full game will feature over 30 unit types, 14 commanders with powerful skills, and a campaign mode to battle through.

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage Tape 2

  • Release date: April 15
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S

The first chapter in Lost Records: Bloom and Rage has already cemented itself as one of the best story-driven experiences of the year, and this month, you can flip the metaphorical tape over to continue the story. How will the summer of '95 end for a group of friends after they discover dark secrets in their small town? That's up to you to discover, as your choices will influence the story.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

  • Release date: April 17
  • Platform: PS5

After exploring ancient ruins, solving puzzles, and cracking Nazi chins on PC and Xbox Series X|S, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is finally arriving on PS5 this month. A faithful adaptation of its movie source material, this Indiana Jones adventure combines stealth-action and puzzle-solving gameplay to create an experience that makes you truly feel like cinema's greatest archeologist.

Lunar Remastered Collection

  • Release date: April 18
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch

Another classic JRPG series is out this month, giving fans the opportunity to experience two of the best fantasy games made during the 16-bit and 32-bit console eras. This package includes Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and its sequel, Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete, as well as several enhancements like retouched graphics, enhanced audio, new English localizations, and gameplay tweaks to make the games more approachable. These were groundbreaking games when they were first released, as the combo of voice acting, animated cutscenes, and CD-quality music elevated them above their peers.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

  • Release date: April 24
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 could be one of the more interesting RPGs of the year as it combines an interesting approach to gameplay with incredible visuals. As the leader of Expedition 33, a ragtag group of warriors tasked with destroying the Paintress before she completes another murderous masterpiece, you'll get to explore a world inspired by Belle Époque France while battling enemies with a mix of turn-based RPG and real-time gameplay mechanics. This will also be a day-one release through Xbox Game Pass for PC and Xbox Series X|S, and the game will be available on PS5 as well.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

  • Release date: April 24
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S

The current golden age of fighting games continues in 2025, as Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves resurrects the fan-favorite series for fans of flashy action. The new Fatal Fury game will feature 17 characters on its base roster and five more as post-launch DLC, as well as a solo RPG-style mode called Episodes of South Town.

Tempest Rising

  • Release date: April 24
  • Platforms: PC

The glory days of Command and Conquer are long past, but a spiritual successor in the form of Tempest Rising is out this month. Like its inspiration, Tempest Rising features two factions battling one another in the main campaign across a world scarred by a few decades of all-out nuclear warfare. Developed by Slipgate Ironworks, the retro-inspired real-time strategy game will also feature a third faction to master in multiplayer and a few neat twists on the classic CnC formula as you build bases and assemble powerful armies.

The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy

  • Release date: April 24
  • Platforms: PC, Switch

A team-up between Kazutaka Kodaka and Kotaro Uchikoshi--the creative forces responsible for the Danganronpa and Zero Escape games--sounds like a perfect pairing for anime fans, and that's just what they're getting in The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy. The goal here is simple, as 15 students are tasked with defending their high school from ghastly monsters for 100 days. The catch is that you'll have to make some tough choices along the way, as you'll need to figure out just how much you're willing to sacrifice to return to a normal life.

Days Gone Remastered

  • Release date: April 25
  • Platforms: PC, PS5

Deacon St. John rides once more, as Days Gone Remastered prepares to hit the road this month. Sony Bend's open-world action-horror game is getting a glow-up for PS5 with several big visual upgrades like improved draw distances lighting, and shadows, and support for 3D audio and VRR. There'll also be a suite of new accessibility options, as well as a new permadeath mode, Horde Assault for anyone looking to take on zombie hordes, and even a speedrun mode. If you own the original PS4 game, the upgrade is just $10, but this deal doesn't apply to any PS Plus downloads of Days Gone.

Forza Horizon 5

  • Release date: April 29
  • Platforms: PS5

We've seen several of Microsoft's games land on PS5 lately, and Forza Horizon 5 is one of the biggest to date. The open-world arcade-racing game--one of the best of all time in the racing genre--is still a masterclass of speed and exploration, and PS5 owners will get to experience the thrill of racing through a vibrant slice of Mexico in April. Just like the PC and Xbox Series X|S version, PS5 players can go on expeditions, collect dozens of cars, and put their skills to the test in various events.

MotoGP 25

  • Release date: April 30
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch

For two-wheeled fans, you can check out this year's installment in Milestone's annual MotoGP series. As usual, you can expect real-life riders, motorcycles, and circuits to be present, several new motorcycling disciplines to master, and multiplayer modes if you're looking to take part in a global arena.

Skin Deep

  • Release date: April 30
  • Platforms: PC

What's worse than being stuck on a spaceship that has been overtaken by space pirates? That exact scenario, but you've got no shoes. Essentially a sci-fi Die Hard, you've got to sneak around and sabotage your enemies so that insurance corporations can keep their valuables safe. There's also a crew of talkative space-cats on each spaceship and inventive methods for dispatching enemies in case you've ever wanted to live life as a deep freeze insurance commando.
